Austria Announces through Nehammer the Response to EU Decisions after the Refusal of Romania's Entry into Schengen

Austria Anunta Nehammer Raspunsul Hotararile UE Refuzul Intrarii Romaniei Schengen

Austria has officially announced through Chancellor Karl Nehammer a response to the decisions of the European Commission these days regarding the measures that must be taken urgently in the European Union due to the migration problem, and this could lead to the lifting of the veto vote that prevents for some time Romania's entry into the Schengen Area.

Austria says that it is happy to see that the European Commission promises to solve the migration problem, and to increase the level of border protection, even if everything will be done pragmatically, and not quickly and forcefully as requested by the government of in Vienna, but it is clear that new important measures are being prepared in Brussels.

Austria will not see its dream of building new fences on the borders of the European Union with Turkey fulfilled, and this is because no euro will come from the European Commission for this purpose, but even with the measures announced now, it seems quite clear that that the problems preventing Romania's entry into Schengen could be solved.

"This is a step in the right direction and shows that our push for concrete action was important. Concrete measures to prevent illegal migration must follow next week. That the EU Commission turn its attention to protecting external borders and addressing physical infrastructure funding.

This is the result of our persistent conviction at European level. I thank the commissioner Johansson and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, for responding to our arguments. Austria's persuasive work is having an effect. Since I was Home Secretary, I have called for more EU funds to be used for external border protection."
