The European Commission Extends the Suspension of Moldovan Import Export Quota Taxes

The European Commission officially announced today a proposal to renew and extend the suspension of import taxes and quotas for the exports that the Republic of Moldova makes to the European Union, and below you have all the details that are announced.

"The Commission proposed today the renewal and extension of the suspension of import taxes and quotas on Moldovan exports to the European Union - known as Autonomous Trade Measures (ATM) - for another year

The proposal would renew the current suspension of import duties on Moldovan exports to the EU for another year and extend this suspension to all remaining tariffs and tariff rates on Moldovan imports.

This is a clear signal of the EU's full support for Moldova's economy and helps to further alleviate the difficult situation faced by Moldovan producers and exporters due to Russia's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Ukraine.

While the objective of the ATMs is to support the economy of the Republic of Moldova, the measures respond to possible concerns in the EU agricultural sector by including an accelerated safeguard mechanism that can be activated if necessary to protect the Union market.

The proposal will now be scrutinized by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union with a view to ensuring a seamless transition from the current ATM regime to the new one."
