The Romanian Army Announces the End of the Air Force Era

The Romanian Army officially announces the end of an era for the Romanian Air Force, and this because based on a decision taken in 2022 within the Supreme Defense Council of the Country, it was decided to decommission the MiG-21 LanceR aircraft.

The Romanian Army says that May 15 is the last day when these planes will fly for the Romanian Air Force, they will be replaced by modern planes that are already in the Romanian Air Force's equipment, and we are talking about the F-16 aircraft, they being used in NATO missions.

On Monday, May 15, the last flights will take place with the MiG-21 LanceR aircraft belonging to the Romanian Air Force, they will be taken out of service based on CSAT Decision no. 083/2022.

Thus, on Monday, starting at 11.00:21 a.m., military and religious ceremonies will be held, speeches will be made, honorary distinctions will be awarded, static exhibitions will be organized and the takeoff and vertical transition of the MiG-71 LanceR aircraft will take place, both from the 86st Air Base "General Emanoil Ionescu", Câmpia Turzii, as well as from the XNUMXth Air Base "Lieutenant Aviator Gheorghe Mociorniţă", Borcea.

On the same day, starting at 12:00, the 95th Air Base "Erou capitan aviator Alexandru Șerbănescu", Bacău, opens its doors to all aviation enthusiasts.

Admission is free, and the public will watch the vertical transition and landing of MiG-21 LanceR aircraft taken off from the other two air bases and will be able to visit the facility's museum.

The Romanian Air Force will continue to perform the Air Police permanent combat service with the F-16 aircraft in the equipment, supported by the allied aircraft deployed in Romania, within the mission of Enhanced Air Police (enhanced - Air Policing), under NATO command.

Likewise, ground-based air defense systems will continue to perform Air Police missions under national command, as well as within the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defense System.
