Italy: Major opposition to Austria, Germany, with IMPORTANT Impact on Romania, Schengen

Italy OPPOSITION Major face Austria Germany IMPORTANT Impact Romania Schengen

Italy opposes a very serious opposition to the plans of Austria and Germany within the JAI Council, which is taking place these days in Luxembourg, with the aim of establishing new rules regarding migration in the European Union, which in the end should have helped Romania as well to join the space without internal border controls, but that seems increasingly unlikely.

Italy has its own demands when it comes to this JAI Council, not being interested in Germany's wishes to conclude an agreement during these days regarding the reform of the asylum system, agreements with third countries, and the deportation of illegal migrants who have been refused asylum, arguing that further negotiations may take place on some points.

Italy practically opposes the requests made by Austria and Germany for this JAI Council to effectively bring changes for migration in Europe, being more interested in protecting its own borders, and not burdening its own citizens, Romania's accession to Schengen being completely forgotten now.

"I don't want to express a strongly opposing position, but we have to imagine the possibility of further negotiations on certain points. The Italian government is still not focusing on resettlement, with all due respect to all those who have cried out in recent years that the Union should have done its part.

Rather, Italy is asking for support on Europe's external dimension, those agreements with countries of origin and transit with which the government hopes to solve the underlying problem. Contrary to what was requested by Germany, which is pushing to close the deal without further demands, Italy brought to the table requests for flexibility on the principle of a safe third country."
