The Ministry of Defense announces an extremely important first for Romanians throughout the country, and this is because the achievements of the doctors from the Military Hospital "dr. Carol Davila" from Bucharest, where the doctors performed an operation through the eyelid.

"The first case in Romania of brain surgery through the eyelid took place at the Central Military Emergency University Hospital "dr. Carol Davila" At the end of last year, the minimally invasive character of the interventions related to epilepsy surgery crossed a new barrier. The case that we present to you for the national premiere is that of a 49-year-old patient.
Known for a major ischemic stroke and epileptic seizures since childhood. When he came to the attention of the medical team, the seizure frequency was about 3-4 seizures per week. The team of neuroepileptologists devised an epilepsy surgery plan that proposed resection of the temporal pole, amygdala nucleus, and hippocampus.
If the plan had gone wrong, the patient would have had severe memory impairment, which could have severely affected his quality of life. It was determined that the best option for this case was an approach that has not been tried before in Romania, through an incision used strictly in oculoplastic surgery, at the level of the left eyelid. The intervention lasted 6 hours. Preparation was performed beforehand by three-dimensional reconstructions.
And practiced both in the virtual environment repeatedly and in specialized dissection courses that took place in Barcelona, Spain. Thus, three months after the intervention, the frequency of seizures decreased from three to four seizures per week to ... none in three months! The definition of a "cured case", however, is the absence of seizures for two years after the intervention, with the patient remaining closely monitored during this period by the neuroepileptology team.
Between 26.02-08.03.2024 at the "Bucegi" Mountain Hunter Training Base, the courses of Survival in a mountain environment and Search-Rescue in a mountain environment, the winter modules, were held.
