Minister of Labor LAST MINUTE Action Official Measures Taken Simona-Bucura Oprescu

The Old Center of the Capital was the scene of an extensive verification operation last night, coordinated by the Minister of Labour, Simona-Bucura Oprescu, together with the Labor Inspectorate and the Bucharest Territorial Labor Inspectorate. Law enforcement, including representatives of the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest, the General Directorate of Gendarmerie of the Municipality of Bucharest, the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Bucharest - Ilfov, the Directorate for Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety and the National Agency for Fiscal Administration, took part to this action focused on preventing and combating undeclared work and other violations of labor law.

After hours of rigorous checks, labor inspectors discovered 13 workers who were providing work without being officially declared, including 11 without an employment contract and two working overtime under part-time employment contracts. Following these discoveries, drastic fines were imposed, totaling 241.500 lei, sending a clear message to employers who evade legal obligations.

A peculiar situation was encountered in a restaurant in the Old Town, where five people, organized under the guise of an "artistic group", claimed that they had no contractual connection with the commercial establishment and that their performances were simply for tips. This case highlights the complexity and ingenuity of the methods by which labor laws are attempted to be circumvented.

The control doesn't stop there. The authorities have announced that the documentation presented by the employers where the inspection was not completed on the spot will also be analyzed, in order to discover other possible violations of the legislation in force. This operation is part of a wider effort to enforce workers' rights and strengthen labor relations discipline in the capital.

The Minister of Labour, Simona-Bucura Oprescu, stated that these actions are essential for creating a fair and competitive business environment, where employees' rights are respected, and honest employers are not disadvantaged by those who break the law. The message sent is clear: undeclared work and violation of labor laws will not be tolerated.

The city faces ongoing challenges of undeclared work and exploitation, and these lightning raids are an important step in the right direction. However, the fight against these dishonest practices is far from over, as the authorities are determined to continue with vigilance and determination the control actions.
