Romania: LAST MINUTE Official Decisions of the MAI for Schengen Accession

Romania announced a series of last-minute official decisions, imposed by the MAI for Schengen accession, here's what's happening since March 31.

Romania Official Decisions LAST MINUTE MAY Schengen Accession

Romania will join Schengen on March 31, 2024, unfortunately only with the air and maritime borders, that is, we will be able to travel in the Schengen Area without passport controls only by plane and boat/ship, with verification in Serbia, but before that happens happens, the MAI announced a series of special measures, implemented in airports.

When Romania joins Schengen, it does so in compliance with the acquis of the system, so the removal of passport and ticket checks from airports will be replaced by border police who will have mobile passenger control devices and will make unexpected and random checks to detect people who do not have the right to leave Romania, or are wanted by other countries.

Romania is obliged to implement these measures as part of the provisions for accession to Schengen from March 31, 2024, so that all these measures will be applied in all airports in the country starting from Sunday, but without accession and for the land borders, unfortunately we remain quite to be blocked in free travel by plane and by sea, at least for now.

"The police officers will be equipped with mobile control devices with which they will carry out these unexpected checks at the airports. If the suspicions are not confirmed, the person can continue his journey. If these are confirmed, the person's trip will be interrupted and measures provided by law will be applied.

People who are generally or internationally wanted will be detained and handed over to the competent authorities, and those who are found to have committed crimes - possessing prohibited substances, false or falsified documents, are illegal migrants - will have the preliminary documents drawn up for the criminal investigation. declared the general inspector of the Border Police, Cornel-Laurian Stoica."
