Italy wants to strengthen its cooperation with Austria in order to further reduce illegal migration on its own territory, but also on the Austrian one, but separately Gerhard Karner announces that solutions are being sought in Vienna for the conclusion of new agreements with third countries for the deportation of migrants, or stopping their entry into the country, other measures that help Romania's accession to Schengen.
Italy is one of the main supporters of Romania's accession to Schengen, working also to convince Austria of this, but measures like these are the ones that have the chance to effectively and decisively contribute to the fulfillment of this national objective for our country, one that is in the attention of millions of Romanians for many years, unfortunately.
"A crucial and central topic of this conversation today was the joint fight against illegal migration and the joint fight against the smuggling mafia in Europe. In addition to the functioning of protection at the EU's external borders and rapid procedures at these external borders, cooperation with safe third countries is essential.
We want to work together to enable asylum procedures in third countries in the future. Italy is already showing new possibilities in the fight against illegal migration in its cooperation with Albania. Austria and Italy also have good cooperation in police cooperation through the trilateral police coordination center in Thörl-Maglern together with Slovenia."
