ING Bank talks below about smishing attacks, one of the newest and most widespread methods by which Romanians are tricked into handing over their personal data and, implicitly, their money, because they are used for money theft. According to those from ING Bank, in 2023 the number of smishing attacks, i.e. SMS fraud, increased 6 times in Romania, a sign that this type of fraud is successful, and criminals take advantage of people's lack of knowledge.
ING Bank is alerting Romanian clients, probably also because the number of those who are affected by these types of fraud is large, and the bank cannot in most cases help its clients in any way, after they are deceived. Many times, after a self-fraud occurs and the money is transferred, its recovery becomes impossible, so ING Bank can only help clients learn how not to lose more money in the future.
