The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, announced the successful completion of the negotiations between Hidroelectrica and MASDAR, which will lead to the creation of a joint venture focused on the development of renewable energy. The agreement, signed in the context of the high-level visit of the Romanian Prime Minister to Abu Dhabi, involves an investment of over 1,5 billion euros and aims to develop at least 2000 MW of capacity in the next three years.
The partnership includes three main technologies: solar parks, floating solar panels on reservoirs – a first for Romania – and energy storage in batteries. "This is a cornerstone for Romania's energy future, providing access to cheaper and safer energy, vital for balancing the national energy system," said Burduja.
During the visit, high-level meetings were held with Emirati officials, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Dr. Sultan Al Jaber. Discussions also covered other major projects, such as the development of offshore wind farms in the Black Sea and various initiatives in the civil nuclear sector.
The Minister of Energy emphasized the importance of this collaboration: "I congratulate the two teams for the outcome of the negotiations. Through these projects, Hidroelectrica joins forces with one of the largest profile companies in the world. It is a clear signal that Romania remains a privileged destination for strategic investments in energy."
According to the Minister, the capital of the United Arab Emirates reflects not only the ambition, but also the competence and pragmatism necessary to realize large, fast and efficient projects. Romania is appreciated for its attractive energy mix and access to European funds, having all the prerequisites to advance in the green energy transition.
