Bulgaria: LAST-MINUTE problems that, apart from Austria, Threaten Romania's accession to Schengen

Bulgaria LAST MINUTE Problems Separate Austria Threatens Romania's Schengen Accession

Bulgaria could remain a very big obstacle in the process of completing Romania's accession to Schengen, separated from Karl Nehammer's Austria, and this is because, based on the information provided by MEP Victor Negrescu, the political instability in our neighboring country is a threat to the completion of the process itself.

Bulgaria in recent years it has gone through numerous parliamentary elections, which led to the change of many governments and political coalitions, and now a new round of elections will take place, so it is possible that the completion of Romania's accession to Schengen will remain in the air, at least until the situation in the neighboring country is clarified from a political point of view.

Bulgaria was like an anchor for Romania's Schengen accession file, and that's because due to the combination of the process for both countries in one file, we couldn't have a finality, because the neighbors from the south had opposition not only from Austria, but also from the Netherlands, and now there are other problems that keep us away from the system.

"We are continuing the steps for the full accession of Romania to the Schengen area. The great success of the last period was that we brought with us the Austrian business environment present in our country. We have always approached these negotiations for joining the free movement area with attention and seriousness both at the level of informal and public discussions.

... The decision is postponed due to the political situation in Bulgaria, the pressure of populist parties in certain member states or citing unforeseen security events. I'm glad we continued to push for that goal." Declares MEP Victor Negrescu.
