Stefan-Radu Oprea, Minister of Economy, officially announces to Romanians all over the country that, after a long period of consultations, studies and in-depth analyses, the National Strategy for Non-Energy Mineral Resources 2025-2035 was officially adopted and published in the Official Gazette of Romania on December 3, 2024 .
Stefan-Radu Oprea, who emphasized the crucial importance of this strategy for the economic development of Romania, in a global context marked by competition for access to resources. The Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (#MEAT) promotes the economic interest of Romania both on a European and international level, considering the development of the entire value chain of the mining industry.
The strategy proposes an integrated and complex approach, which covers all stages of mining activities - from research and prospecting, to exploration, development, exploitation, preparation and processing, to the effective exploitation of resources. The main objective is to ensure a sustainable and efficient exploitation of the country's non-energy mineral resources, thus contributing to long-term economic development.
The strategic document seeks to improve the way the state and local communities support the activity in the field of non-energy mineral resources, by creating a more favorable legislative and institutional framework. The focus is on ensuring access to financing, implementing effective resource management policies, as well as promoting public-private partnerships.
Stefan-Radu Oprea points out that the strategy incorporates valuable contributions from various entities, including the Romanian Academy, the university environment, patronages, business people, research institutes and other specialists in the field, thus emphasizing the collaborative nature of the elaboration process.
The adoption of this strategy in the Government meeting of November 21, 2024, at the proposal of MEAT, comes in an extremely dynamic global context, in which access to raw materials plays an essential role in maintaining and increasing the economic development capacity of a country.
Currently, economic competitiveness largely depends on access to resources, and Romania wants to strengthen its position regarding the exploitation and valorization of non-energy mineral resources, in order to support a sustainable and resilient economic development.
The strategy also aims to contribute to increasing the attractiveness of Romania for investors in the mining sector, by facilitating access to geological information and encouraging the development of research and exploration projects. A special attention is also provided for the protection of the environment, by promoting responsible and sustainable practices in mining activities.
Stefan-Radu Oprea mentions the fact that, in this way, it is desired that the exploitation of resources be done in compliance with the highest standards of safety and environmental protection, in order to ensure a balance between economic development and the conservation of natural resources for future generations.
