Ministry of Defence has published an official warning about which many Romanians must know, and this is because we are talking about an extremely serious problem that has been discussed intensively in recent days, when the online space has been invaded by false and manipulative information that claims the existence of so-called " "non-transparent preparations" for the recruitment of young people between the ages of 18 and 35 or the mobilization of reservists, for sending them to the front in Ukraine.
Ministry of Defence reacted firmly, qualifying these statements as untruths intended to generate panic. To support these alarmist scenarios, either images and information about routine procedures of the structures responsible for managing mobilization reserves are used, or images of military columns captured during road or rail travel.
Footage from the Military Parade on December 1 was even presented as "proof" of war preparations. The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that these speculations are amplified on social platforms, especially on TikTok, and are part of campaigns coordinated by state actors that aim to undermine Romania's sovereignty and NATO's credibility.
Mandatory military service was suspended from January 1, 2007, according to Law 395/2005. Romania switched to a system based exclusively on volunteering.
The Ministry of Defense reaffirmed that it did not take into account the reinstitution of compulsory military service and that all recruitment actions are based on volunteering. Recruitment would become mandatory only in situations of war, mobilization or state of siege, according to the legal provisions in force.
Romania, as a member of NATO, benefits from the strongest security guarantees in its history. All the measures taken at the national and allied level are exclusively defensive in nature, being oriented towards strengthening the defense and preventing any aggression.
The Ministry of Defense encourages citizens to check any information related to national security and defense from official sources. The InfoRadar platform remains a useful resource for debunking disinformation, providing archives documenting numerous similar manipulation attempts.
It is essential that the public remains vigilant and does not allow the propagation of false narratives that can it affects national security and trust in state institutions.
