Elena Lasconi Launches New Harsh Accusations Against Klaus Iohannis and the Romanian Government

Elena Lasconi, USR president, recently launched fierce criticism of the government led by Marcel Ciolacu, accusing it of mismanaging Romania's economy and prioritizing personal presence to the detriment of concrete solutions to the current economic crisis.

Elena Lasconi says that economists have constantly drawn attention to the explosive growth of Romania's total external debt and the fact that the country has borrowed at the highest interest rates in the last two years.

"Meanwhile, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is busy filming videos for TikTok, he doesn't have time to find solutions to get the country out of the economic disaster he himself pushed it into, through the aberrant measures taken and the waste of public money during the last term," said Lasconi.

The USR president stressed that there are daily news reports about possible tax increases proposed by the PSD-PNL government after the repeat presidential elections, but there is no news about spending cuts. "On the contrary, we hear that state-owned companies and countless authorities and agencies are preparing increases in allowances and salaries in 2025 as well. After all, Ciolacu cut from pensioners and children and set up new offices for the private sector!"

Elena Lasconi suggested that the prime minister should reduce state spending instead of drowning the country even more in debt, affecting many generations from now on. She also called for cutting the excessive salaries of certain officials: "It is imperative to cut from specialists, from heads of institutions who receive 8-10.000 euros per month without having any notable results, just because he appointed them from his pen! We have about 200 useless agencies that the prime minister can quickly abolish or merge. USR already has the list and can make it available to the Government."

Elena Lasconi brought up the situation of President Klaus Iohannis, accusing him of illegally occupying Cotroceni Palace after the expiration of his mandate on December 21, 2024. "Klaus Iohannis can be considered an illegal tenant at Cotroceni Palace.

"Instead of letting the head of the Senate, as the law says, lead Romania on an interim basis, Iohannis continues to lie in office and does nothing. Not even in the eyes of the world! He has no events on the public agenda, the year 2025 does not even appear on the Presidential Administration website!"

Elena Lasconi invoked the implications of Russian interference in the current political situation, stating that the president used it to undermine the rules of democracy and maintain power: "Romanians see, looking at Klaus Iohannis, that he used Russian interference - real, by the way - to trample on even the most elementary rules of democracy, with the sole purpose of clinging to power."

Lasconi's statements reflect the growing tensions in Romanian society, highlighting dissatisfaction with the current government and calling for drastic changes for the country's economic and political recovery.
