BREAKING NEWS Military Actions Ministry of Defense Brings Attention to Romanians

Ministry of Defence continues to inform Romanians about the military actions taking place in Romania at the moment, and this is because the Belgian and Spanish soldiers, deployed within the NATO Battle Group in Romania, trained in the first decade of January alongside their Portuguese allies from the Multinational Division South-East.

Ministry of Defence reports that these trainings included complex tactical exercises and simulations specific to urban combat, aimed at improving the coordination and efficiency of NATO forces in modern conflict scenarios. The Romanian Army has been participating, since January 2025, in three of the eight NATO battle groups on the Eastern Flank.

As part of Romania's NATO obligations, the Army has included sending troops and military equipment to two new battle groups located in Slovakia and Bulgaria. In Slovakia, Romania has established an anti-tank detachment, while in Bulgaria a reconnaissance detachment is deployed. In parallel, Romania continues to actively contribute to the battle group in Poland, where it has deployed an anti-aircraft defense detachment, thus strengthening the Alliance's defensive capacity on the Eastern Flank.

The Ministry of Defense says that the decision to establish these multinational battle groups was taken at the 2022 NATO Summit in Madrid, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen collective defense measures on the Eastern Flank of the North Atlantic Alliance. These groups were organized according to the model of those existing in the Baltic States and Poland, created following the 2016 NATO Summit in Warsaw, thus demonstrating NATO's continued commitment to ensuring security and stability in the Eastern European region.

At the same time, Romanian anti-aircraft gunners from the "Iron Cheetahs" Anti-Aircraft Defense Detachment, deployed at the Bemowo Piskie Training Base, Poland, recently conducted a tactical situation resolution exercise (STX). These training activities aimed to improve the commanders' ability to plan and conduct combat actions, as well as to train and evaluate crew members, thus ensuring a high level of preparation for potential conflict situations.

In addition to the training activities, on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the headquarters of the Air Force General Staff, an important ceremony took place for the promotion of military personnel, the conferral of military distinctions and the transfer to the reserve of some members of the Air Force General Staff.

The Ministry of Defense states that, during the event, Lieutenant General Leonard Baraboi, head of the SMFA, addressed words of congratulations to his colleagues, appreciating their dedicated activity, devotion and involvement within the institution.

These initiatives reflect Romania's firm commitment to supporting security and stability in the Eastern European region, through close military cooperation with NATO allies. By actively participating in battle groups and organizing rigorous training exercises, Romania is strengthening its strategic role within the North Atlantic Alliance, significantly contributing to collective defense and maintaining peace in Europe.
