Official Normative Project BREAKING NEWS Florin Barbu Regarding Romanian Agriculture

Florin Barbu, Minister of Agriculture, continues to regulate agriculture in Romania, and this is because it officially unveiled a new draft regulatory act intended for sheep and goat breeders, intended to provide emergency financial support to the agricultural sector affected by unfavorable climatic phenomena.

Florin Beard, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Rural Development, held discussions with representatives of associations in the field, presenting the proposal that provides for a grant of 248 lei per head of young female sheep or goats. The project applies to a herd of between 50 (minimum) and 300 (maximum) heads per beneficiary.

"The phenomenon of soil drought, accompanied by high temperatures and low precipitation between September 2023 and August 2024, had a major negative impact on agricultural crops and grasslands in Romania. This situation also seriously affected the sheep and goat farming sector, forcing farmers to purchase feed at high prices and sell young animals intended for herd replacement.

"The project I have designed aims to provide financial support in the form of a grant to compensate for losses and ensure the continuity of agricultural activities. I believe that this measure is essential for stabilizing the agricultural sector and ensuring food security in the medium and long term," said Minister Florin Barbu.

Eligible beneficiaries are represented by sheep and goat breeders operating as individuals, PFA, individual and family businesses, agricultural companies or legal entities. They must own farms registered with ANSVSA code and have a minimum of 50 female young animals, aged between 1 and 12 months on August 31, 2024.

Florin Barbu states that the necessary documentation and applications for support will be submitted within 20 working days from the entry into force of the decision, which is to be approved by the Government in the immediate future. Grant payments will be made by April 30, 2025.

This financial support scheme aims to prevent distortion of the feed market and price increases, thus reducing the financial vulnerability of breeders. At the same time, the measure aims to avoid over-indebtedness and bankruptcy of farmers, ensuring the continuity of agricultural activities, maintaining the female herd and minimizing the social risks generated by the abandonment of agricultural activities.

The Ministry of Agriculture hopes that the implementation of this measure will significantly contribute to stabilizing the sector and strengthening long-term food security, in the context of the climate challenges of recent years.
