The Minister of Education, Daniel David, to make new structural changes to education in Romania, so it has taken a very important decision, which aims to launch in public consultation the draft order regulating the structure of the 2025-2026 school year. According to the draft, the school year will take place over 36 weeks of courses, starting on September 8, 2025 and ending on June 19, 2026.

Minister of Education established that the project provides for the implementation of the National Program "School Differently" and the "Green Week" Program between September 8, 2025 and April 3, 2026, at the decision of the educational units. Also, a week of vacation may be established by the county school inspectorates or by the Bucharest Municipality Inspectorate between February 9 and March 1, 2026.

In a meeting on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Minister Daniel David met with representatives of the National Student Council to discuss essential aspects related to the pre-university education system. The meeting's agenda also included draft framework plans for high school education, topics considered fundamental for the modernization of education in Romania.

The Minister of Education also says that student representatives have stressed the importance of decentralization, so that schools and students have an active role in shaping the curriculum. It was proposed to develop a guide for informed decisions, as well as to valorize individualized learning plans, to better respond to the specific needs of each student.

The discussions also addressed the need for cross-curricular support for subjects related to national culture. It is intended to rethink models and programs to ensure adequate assimilation of this knowledge, regardless of the educational path. Another major aspect was the reduction of the curricular load, in order to provide a more efficient and personalized education, based on proven psycho-pedagogical principles.

The Minister of Education also reports that student representatives have proposed the inclusion of essential life subjects, such as health education, media education, civic education and critical thinking. These subjects could be integrated both within the common core and as options that students could choose from the school's offer, thus contributing to the development of practical and relevant skills for the 21st century.

The launch of this public consultation and the meeting with the National Student Council mark an important step towards modernizing the education system in Romania. The proposed initiatives reflect an effort concert to adapt education to current requirements and the real needs of students, in order to build a solid and innovative educational future.
