The Border Police continues to implement firm measures at the Romanian borders to prevent illegal migration, according to the latest information transmitted by the authorities. Following unsystematic checks carried out in the area of competence of the Nadlac Border Police Section, but also at strategic points in the vicinity of the Calafat-Vidin Bridge toll station, the border police discovered a total of 15 foreign citizens who did not have the right to travel in the Schengen area.
On 12.02.2025, border police officers from the Nadlac Border Police Sector carried out random checks on the A1 motorway. During this operation, a car registered in Romania, driven by a Romanian citizen, was stopped.
Upon checking the vehicle, it was found that the driver was transporting seven people: one in the front passenger seat, four in the back seat and two in the trunk. The people were accompanied to the sector headquarters for further investigation, where authorities determined that these passengers were Bangladeshi citizens, aged between 22 and 53.
Consequently, a criminal case was opened against the Romanian driver for the crime of migrant smuggling, while the foreigners are being investigated for fraudulent border crossing. The Border Police emphasizes that, in the context of Romania's full accession to the Schengen area, it remains vigilant and intensifies its activities based on risk analysis to maintain border security.
12.02.2025, 14:45: Border police officers from the Calafat Border Police Sector, together with Bulgarian partners, stopped a car registered in Romania for inspection, in the vicinity of the toll station of the Calafat-Vidin bridge. The vehicle was driven by a Romanian citizen, with four passengers of Afro-Asian origin without identity documents. Following the checks, they declared that they came from Syria and Iraq and were between 20 and 35 years old.
13.02.2025, 03:45: In the same area, border police officers conducted a new check on a car registered in Romania, also driven by a Romanian citizen. This time, four passengers of Afro-Asian origin were found inside, two male and two female, who did not have identity documents. They declared themselves to be Turkish and Iraqi citizens, aged between 19 and 32.
According to legal procedures, in both cases, the foreign citizens were returned to Bulgaria, with the authorities continuing their investigations to establish the exact circumstances and possible organizers of the illegal transport.
The Border Police reaffirms that border security remains a priority, even after Romania's full integration into the Schengen area. Competence in the field of combating illegal migration remains at national level, and coordinated actions between authorities are necessary to prevent and deter this criminal phenomenon.
By intensifying non-systematic checks, conducting joint patrols and cooperating closely with law enforcement institutions from other states, the Border Police demonstrates a solid commitment to protecting the state border and ensuring a safe climate for all travelers.
