Romanian army officially announces that during this day a special operation was launched, approved by the Ministry of Defense, through which a C-27J Spartan aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, configured for medical interventions, took off from Otopeni to carry out an emergency humanitarian mission.
Romanian army reports that the purpose of the flight was to transport four burn patients from Skopje, North Macedonia, to a hospital in Brussels, Belgium. During the flight, the patients benefited from continuous medical supervision, provided by a team composed of specialists from the Ministry of National Defense, the Department for Emergency Situations, as well as Belgian medical personnel.
The aircraft returned to the country on the morning of March 19. The mission was approved by the Minister of National Defense, at the request of the Department for Emergency Situations, and falls within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, established in 2001 to facilitate the coordination of assistance in large-scale emergency situations, involving EU member states, but also non-EU partner states.
The Romanian Army also reports that in parallel, the soldiers from the Anti-Aircraft Defense Detachment, in the 17th rotation, carried out exercises on the firing range of the "Brigadier General Ion Bungescu" Anti-Aircraft Defense Training School in Capu Midia, demonstrating professionalism and preparation for crisis situations.
Also in this context, anti-aircraft artillery specialists from the Turda forces carried out complex firings with the Gepard systems, completing essential training stages and obtaining remarkable results.
A solemn moment took place at Camp Butmir in Sarajevo, where the soldiers of the Multinational Battalion held a moment of silence in memory of the victims of a tragic fire in Kochani, North Macedonia. During the event, sincere condolences were conveyed to the grieving families and the entire Macedonian people, thus reaffirming solidarity and compassion for those affected.
The Romanian Army also announces that the soldiers of the 348th Anti-Aircraft Defense Battalion tested their limits in the "Best Cannon/Launch Crew" competition. The demanding tests highlighted military knowledge, physical endurance and dexterity in handling weapons, demonstrating determination and skill in the face of challenges.
The Ministry of Defense also brings to our immediate attention the fact that at the headquarters of the 4th Infantry Division "Gemina" Command in Cluj-Napoca, a meeting took place between Major General Bogdan Cernat and Colonel Robert Kammerer, the American defense attaché in Bucharest.
The meeting included an information briefing on priorities and future challenges, representing an excellent opportunity to strengthen strategic ties within the international alliance.
