Elena Lasconi, USR candidate in the 2025 presidential elections in Romania, launched a firm and relentless call for transparency within the USR, asking the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) to clarify how a handful of people within the party are playing with its resources during the campaign.
Elena Lasconi's statements attracted the attention of both USR members and the public, providing the premises for a broad debate on ethics and internal financial management. Lasconi emphasized that her request refers to the verification of the use of financial resources intended for the campaign - whether they were used directly or indirectly to promote another candidate.
"I asked to verify whether the financial resources allocated by USR to this campaign were used directly or indirectly for another candidate", she said, adding that the investigation must determine whether properly assigned proxy codes were used illegally by some of her colleagues.
Elena Lasconi raised a major issue regarding access to internal party funds. She asks: “How is it possible that a candidate, party president, does not have access to the financial resources of the party that designated him as a competitor in this electoral competition?” This raises serious questions about how the party's money is managed and who exercises influence in making strategic decisions.
Her message was not limited to the internal politics of the USR, but also reached a broader plan, the fight for justice and responsibility at the national level. "I have the courage to do justice! For me, for you, for all of us!", she said, addressing the 20.000 members of the party.
Elena Lasconi expressed her gratitude to her colleagues who stood by her in these trials and promised that she would not allow a handful of ill-intentioned people to make decisions against the will of the members.
In the current context, her message also takes on a broader social dimension. Lasconi noted that Romania is facing one of the hardest periods in the last 20 years, with an Easter that is shaping up to be the most expensive in history.
"The huge inflation in Romania is the result of bad decisions made by the Government. We are paying dearly for the incompetence and empty promises of the PSD-PNL in recent years", she said. For Lasconi, it is unacceptable that hard-working Romanians do not enjoy a bountiful Easter holiday, and this situation reflects a lack of responsibility on the part of those in power.
Elena Lasconi also touched on a social issue that concerns the entire society: the drug phenomenon and its devastating impact on youth. “A 20-year-old died from drugs – he had been drugging live on TikTok. What are the Romanian authorities doing, though?” she asked, urgently emphasizing the need for firm measures in this regard.
During the first meeting of the CSAT, with the potential to take over as president of the country, she promises to put the drug issue on the discussion table, insisting that immediate action is needed to protect the future of our children.
Elena Lasconi manages to mobilize and awaken the attention of public opinion. Her message is simple and direct: truth and justice must prevail, and any form of abuse or injustice, both within political parties and at the governmental level, cannot be tolerated. For many, her words represent a symbol of the courage to do what is right, even when faced with powerful interests and cherished traditions.
At a time when economic and social problems are putting increasing pressure on citizens, Lasconi's message could mark a change in the way politicians and authorities approach current challenges. Only time will tell whether the call for transparency and accountability will lead to real changes in the management of domestic funds and in the fight against social problems that affect all categories of the population in Romania.
It remains to be seen how the authorities and colleagues from the USR will react, but one thing is certain: the message of courage and the fight for justice, delivered by Elena Lasconi, has captured the attention and hope of a considerable number of Romanians who want a fairer and brighter future.
