Italy welcomes through Giorgia Meloni a series of extremely important measures announced by the EU under pressure from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, and this is because after Romania's accession to Schengen, a list of safe countries for deportations is created, but also the dispatch of some of the provisions of the asylum and migration pact.
Italy has long been demanding the inclusion of Bangladesh, Egypt and Tunisia on the list of safe countries to which illegal migrants can be deported, as well as other EU countries, and now this is being fulfilled, after Romania's accession to Schengen, plans to return migrants who do not have the right to stay to their countries of origin have been accelerated.
Italy boasts of influencing the decisions behind these changes made by the EU, which is true, given that other countries have made similar efforts, but after Romania's accession to Schengen, their requests are finally being met in order to reduce illegal migration on the "old continent".
"I welcome with great satisfaction the proposal for an EU list of safe countries of origin presented by the EC, which includes, among others, Bangladesh, Egypt and Tunisia. I also welcome the proposal to bring forward the entry into force of some components of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, in particular the possibility of designating safe countries of origin with territorial exceptions."
Italy has played and is playing a decisive role in changing the European approach to managing migratory flows. If today even in Europe the defense of external borders, the fight against mass illegal immigration, the strengthening of repatriation policies and the implementation of equal partnerships with countries of origin and transit are a priority.”
