limera1n or greenpois0n - which jailbreak solution is better?

Both limera1n and also greenpois0n have been released, but the big question on everyone's lips is: which jailbreak solution should I use for my terminal? The 2 jailbreak solutions are essentially based on exactly the same exploits, i.e. an exploit discovered by geohot 6 months ago plus another one by comex which combined with the first one leads to an untethered jailbreak. From a peaceful point of view, you have nothing to worry about because both work on approximately the same "skeleton". The implementation of the 2 exploits is definitely different for each individual jailbreak solution and it is hard to say which one causes the least problems.

I used both limera1n and greenpois0n (for a few hours) and I did not encounter any noticeable difference in the use of the phone regardless of which solution it was jailbroken with. I encountered no problems installing/using applications, using GPS or connecting to the Internet, practically everything works equally well on either of the 2 solutions. Both have afc2 integrated, so you will have access to the phone's system files via USB immediately after the jailbreak, so this does not separate them either. The only notable differences could be related to battery autonomy and phone performance. I can't tell you anything about the autonomy yet because both are too new and regarding the performances I really don't have any clue to separate them.

You can use either of these 2 jailbreak solutions because both will work equally well. The problem with greenpois0n is that it ONLY works on iOS 4.1 while limera1n works on any version of iOS between 4.0 – 4.1 but does not work on any version of Windows. Each has its little quirks, but both are equally well done.

  1. At the last resoftware with limera1n, the option to set internet data..apn and the rest disappeared. If I don't manage to solve the problem, I will try greenpoison. anyway, I haven't found any options for mac so....it remains to be seen.

  2. In the first version of limra1n, I still had the option after jailbreak, I still had ios4.1, what I did differently was that I did not activate the phone after reinstalling ios4, but I applied jailbreak with limera1n and let it be activated. If I activate with any simbook type card after jailbreak, I keep getting the different sim error.

  3. @florin it was like something from cydia that made those settings reappear in the menu. I don't know what it's called, but I read it somewhere. search on Google. there was somewhere where it was also written about the fact that orange made a carrier update to 5.0 and internet access was blocked.
    but for example when I was on vodafone I had them and when I switched to orange I didn't have them anymore. but on the ipad they still appear on orange.

  4. I found on macuser:
    1. Download and Install iPhone Configuration Utility: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL926

    2. At Configuration Profiles, give NEW then to:

    General

    * Name: Orange Internet
    * Identifier: internet

    All the way down to (Advanced)

    * Access Point Name (APN): internet
    * Username: Internet
    * Password: Orange

    3. Click on Devices on the left, click on phone, click on Configuration Profiles

    4. Find the profile just added, and click Install

    5. A confirmation message appears on the phone, click Install, Done

    6. The phone is reset, and voila... the internet is working again!

    It seems that the update to iOS4 deletes from the phone the default APN settings set in the Orange store, and therefore they must be redone according to the tutorial above.

    Enjoy!

  5. hello. I have a 3gs new bootrom with 3.1.3 and if I want to switch to ios 4.0.2, because it depends on the unlock, I could do it jb with limera1n and unlock with ultrasnow 0.9.3. Can I do jb with limera1n if I have windows XP sp2??

  6. I saved shsh 4.0.2 in cydia. But I don't know what is the process of installing version 4.0.2. Do I install it with shift restore and put the software? (that's how it was with 3g) or what are the stages?? that I never installed the software on the 3gs. I've had it for 3 months and I'm afraid it won't remain a trinket.

  7. I have a dilemma!?! I have a 3G with 4.1 and I jailbraked it with snow! it works perfectly! no problem! is it worth jailbraking again with the 2 new options?

  8. how can you install TetherMe APN editing without installing TetherMe? For me, it automatically takes both of them and stops, because tetherMe is a paid application.

  9. for stefan vlad - greenpoison does a jailbreak on a new 3gs bootrom and from win xp, and it works great....I'm also waiting for the decoding..

  10. I have mac and win and ubuntu. 🙂 but I'm waiting for either the 4.1 baseband decoding or the possibility to switch to 4.1 without a baseband update... the wait is long... I'm fed up.
    I bought a DTS PhoneBook card online a few weeks ago [identical to what was on youtube for activation] but I couldn't activate the phone with it so I'm still waiting for 3.1.2 on the iphone and it kills me to keep looking for the computer when I restart or it crashes...
