iOS 8.4 - performance problems and solutions

iOS 8.4 performanceiOS 8.4 was launched for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on Tuesday, Apple officially offering us Apple Music and Beats 1 Radio, plus a new Music application through which we can access these services.

Apart from these important news, the Apple company also slightly modified the way iOS 8.4 works, so that some users reported various performance problems after installing the update, some terminals working more difficult than in the case of using iOS 8.3.

We are mainly talking about old iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches that have not very powerful hardware, they have some problems running smoothly all the menus and functions available in iOS 8.4, enough users complain about this even on the Apple forums.

Based on what various users have reported and based on what I've tested, disabling certain operating system animations can dramatically improve iOS 8.4 performance for terminals with old hardware, but this implies giving up certain functions.

How do I solve the performance problems of iOS 8.4?

Menu Settings > General > Accessibility, Settings > General > Accessibility you will find all the options for the changes you are going to make, some of them including a respring for the user interface in order to activate or deactivate.

To improve the performance of old iPhones, iPads or iPod Touches in iOS 8.4, you will need to activate the option Discount Move, Reduce Motion, and activate the option Transparent Discount, Reduce Transparency, disabling animations that generate high data consumption.

Apart from these, another option that you have to disable is called PerspectiveZoom, it being displayed in the case of applying certain wallpapers, the deactivation being done before applying that wallpaper through the menu Settings > Wallpaper, Settings > Wallpaper.

By making these changes you will be able to use a iOS 8.4 much faster on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touches.

  1. After I changed the features you mentioned, iOS 8.4 works worse. I personally think that nothing should be disabled, tested by me personally!

  2. On my iPhone 6, when I listen to music (the one from Apple), my phone starts playing again from time to time, sometimes it freezes (it no longer responds to commands).

  3. I got rid of all these problems by switching to the Galaxy S6. I've owned an iPhone since the first model in 2007 and was a little afraid to switch to Android, but in the end I did and I have to say that I don't regret it at all. The Android phase is an inferior OS… blah blah blah… these are just myths and legends. I don't know how other versions of Android and other devices running Android work, but the combination of the Galaxy S6 and Android 5.1.1 is clearly superior to the iPhone and IOS and I don't have to start disabling half the phone features like I did on the iPhone to get it to work decently . And the battery, with all the active functions, lasts twice as long as the iPhone 6 (which my sister has).

  4. "Adrian", go see a doctor, it looks like Apple has brainwashed you. That's what blogs are made for, for people to share their experiences. Or do you think non-Apple ass-kissers aren't allowed to share their experiences?

  5. On my iPhone 6 after I got it
Installed 8.4, the phone heated up and the battery dropped very quickly, but after I gave it a restart, everything returned to normal

  6. On the iPhone 6, it works flawlessly…..the battery lasts as well as before! Also on iPad 4, it works much better than iOS 8.3! From my point of view it is a successful update! I have vb with other friends, and they also have no problem!

  7. For iphone 4s, it was best with 7.1.2, now I have 8.2 and it's happy anyway, I regret it. I also tested 8.3, but it can't do 4s anymore and I think 8.4 with cydia is a disaster.

  8. @MIHAIDAMAS, Pruteanu reincarnated in you. You are deviating from the topic. As far as I know, this is a technology blog, not a "let's correct spelling mistakes" blog. Everyone makes spelling mistakes, more important are the grammatical ones.
@RaduD, now he wants to sell his iPhone 6 and switch to a Galaxy S6 Edge.

  9. It works perfectly on the iPhone 4s, the error that appeared in iCloud regarding the free space has been solved and otherwise what can I say, I am satisfied. The battery seems to last a little longer and it doesn't get too hot when you play too much on it. A successful update I say from my point of view.

  10. Am I the only one who after 8.4 on a 5s can no longer search in contacts? My keyboard no longer appears so I can search for a specific contact 🙁
