Windows 7 could reach iOS and Android in 2 years

The new Windows Phone 7 operating system has just been launched and the first ones are already being made RATINGS regarding the time required for it to catch up with iOS and Android OS. At the moment, Windows Phone 7 has quite a few shortcomings compared to the already matured operating systems from Apple and Google, but the OS from Microsoft represents a very good basis for future development. During a conference on Tuesday, one of Microsoft's vice presidents admitted that it could take at least 2 years until the company manages to bring Windows Phone 7 to the iOS and Android OS levels, and at the moment the company is focusing on selling terminals mobiles running this OS.

So far, so good. We've tried to make the launch go well. We wanted to get all the devices in the market, we didn't make that happen, but now we have 10 products around the world. We've ramped up our ads. Unsatisfied with the vagueness of the response, Mossberg asked how many devices Windows had sold. Belfiore answered, "We're not talking numbers." Mossberg hinted that not mentioning numbers suggests poor sales, but Belfiore dismissed the suggestion, claiming it's just "too soon" to discuss numbers.

When asked about the number of terminals sold so far by Microsoft, the VP refused every time to give an answer and this attitude feeds the rumors that claim that the WP 7 terminals had very poor sales. It is estimated that on the day of the launch in the USA, only a few tens of thousands of terminals were sold, which means extraordinarily little for a company like Microsoft and a market like the one in the USA.

My opinion is that Microsoft needs to work a lot on improving the operating system but also on promoting it much more intensively. Of course, the biggest problem for WP7 terminals is the lack of applications, and today an OS for mobile terminals without applications is doomed, so Microsoft will have to find new ways to attract application developers.
