iPhone OS will be called iOS 4 and the GM version is available now!

The iPhone OS has been renamed to iOS 4 and will be available from June 21 for everyone and from this evening we will have the GM (Gold Master) version available for all developers to give them the opportunity to update their applications and make them compatible with iOS 4.

The final iOS 4 does not bring much new compared to everything that was presented at the April 8 keynote for the beta version, the major changes exist in iPhone 4 and refer to the new retina display, the increased resolution, the ability to make video calls, a the new application to modify the films and of course an improved camera application that gives us the possibility to shoot video in HD quality. An interesting element, presented by me already, is the introduction of the option to use the Bing search engine as the main engine in Safari.

The new iOS 4 will be compatible with iPhone 3G but not all its features will work on this terminal, with iPhone 3GS it will be 100% compatible but the features from the new iPhone 4 will not work, and for iPod Touch 2G/3G update will be available for free. iOS 4 will not work on iPhone 2G/iPod Touch 1G, but you already knew that.

Otherwise, everything that has been discussed so far regarding the lack of multitasking and other features on the iPhone 3G remains current.
