Huawei is slowly but surely approaching a ban on its 5G telecommunications equipment in Europe, and this is because a message from Brussels is not very encouraging. Philippe De Backer, the Minister of Communications of Belgium, stated in front of the country's Parliament that the intelligence services recommended that the level of security regarding 5G networks be high, and this means an exclusion of those from Huawei.
Huawei has not had any problems of this kind in Belgium so far, but if messages come from Brussels that make it clear that their equipment is not safe, they will also reach the eyes of other European leaders. At the moment in Belgium, any telecommunications operator can provide equipment for GSM networks in the country, but the information services request that access be restricted by the government to only reliable suppliers.
Huawei: Brussels wants to BAN the Company's Products
Huawei would face a ban in Belgium regarding the supply of 5G equipment for telecommunications operators, and this is because the Minister of Communications supports the request of the intelligence services. They want the security level for the approval of telecommunications equipment to be raised from 1 to 4, the maximum being 5, so it would be a matter of a severe restriction of the control that the government had over the process.
"Belgium's security services have recommended tighter security measures for the rollout of 5G telecommunications as the ongoing debate about potential risks from Chinese tech giant Huawei plays out across Europe. Currently, the risk level for 5G is one, which allows providers unrestricted access to the market, but the recommendation to raise it to level four, one below the highest level, would allow the government to limit the use of the technology by "unsafe" companies "."
Huawei has not yet been banned by the European Commission for the supply of telecommunications equipment in Europe, but considering that this is also recommended in Brussels, it is expected that the decision will be taken. If Belgium decides to restrict Huawei's access to the supply of 5G telecommunications equipment, then it is unlikely that other important countries will not do it, and the future of the company in Europe is increasingly uncertain.
Huawei has tried to defend itself in Europe in recent months in the face of all the accusations and pressures that the US has put on its partners, and they seem to be starting to give in after almost 1 year of constant pressure.
