Tutorial: How to install Android 2.2 Froyo on iPhone 3G

iPhoDroid R12, the newest version of the application that installs Android on your iPhone, is available for download starting today. This new version will give you the possibility to install Android 2.2 Froyo on iPhone 3G, but unfortunately the application can only be used on Mac OSX and Linux. Here's what the r12 version brings:

  • Possibility to install Android 2.2 Froyo;
  • Changes to the graphical interface of the application;
  • Support for iOS 4.0;
  • It no longer uses the system partition for installation.

This tutorial is only for those with Mac OSX and a WiFi network at home, OpenSSH installed on the phone and most importantly, a jailbroken iPhone 3G otherwise absolutely nothing will work.

Step 1

Download iPhoDroid R12 from here: Mac OSX.

Step 2

The phone must be connected to a WiFi network, if you do not have a WiFi network then you cannot continue the tutorial. After you have connected the phone to the WiFi network, save its IP address from: Settngs>WiFi>Your network name> the first field.

Step 3

Enter the phone in Recovery Mode, you have a tutorial for that here, then open the iPhoDroid app on your Mac.

Step 4

Select the option to install Androud 2.2 Froyo and enter the administrator password of your Mac.

Step 5

Enter the IP address of your phone saved in step 2 and press "Next" to continue.

Step 6

Now your phone will start a 15 step process to install Android 2.2 Froyo on your phone. For each step there is a certain period of time displayed, if the phone stays too long at a certain step then you have to restart the process from the beginning.

Step 7

After completing the 15 steps, you have Android Froyo 2.2 installed and the application will ask you if you have OpeniBoot installed. If you did not have Android previously installed on your phone, then select "No" and press "Next".

Step 8

The application will ask you if you want to make a back-up of the NOR, my recommendation is to accept.

Step 9

The application will ask you to enter the phone in "Scroll Mode", in fact this "Scroll Mode" is normal Recovery Mode, so all you have to do is press and hold the Home + Sleep buttons until some lines of code appear on the screen, then give them the road.

After finishing this process, Android 2.2 Froyo and OpeniBoot will be installed in your phone.
