iOS 4.1 available next week – brings HDR to iDevices

Apple announced this evening that it will release iOS 4.1 next week, the new software version being available only for the iPhone/iPod Touch, not for the iPad tablet. iOS 4.1 comes with some very interesting news:

  • solving some bugs exists in iOS 4.0 – 4.0.2;
  • solving problems with iPhone 3G;
  • a new function for the High Dynamic Range or HDR camera application;
  • the possibility to upload HD movies via WiFi;
  • the possibility to rent shows on iDevices;
  • the official launch of the Game Center application together with the entire social network.

The most interesting function is HDR, which means that now the phone will take 3 pictures instead of one and then combine them all so that the final image is one that combines all the elements from the 3 pictures and has the best quality. If you've used cameras with the HDR function, then you know what I'm talking about here, if not, then definitely wikipedia can explain better.

To be honest, this function will turn the iPhone 4 camera into a 5 megapixel "miracle", at least that's what emerged from the presentation made by Apple at the conference. It remains to be seen how it will behave in reality, anyway the camera in the iPhone 4 is very very good and I hope that this function will make it extraordinary.
