I have said already that iOS 4.2 will bring us the option to use a printer to print photos or documents directly from our iDevices, and in the video clip above you have a demonstration of this new function. This new function will be called AirPrint and is available in Safari for printing web pages, in applications that open documents available on the iPhone, but also in the Photos application that displays pictures. Printing a file or a web page is very simple, basically access the file/web page then select the print option and the phone will send the file via WiFi to the printer for printing.

For now, this function only works with a few printer models, but until the official launch, their number will definitely increase to give iDevices users the opportunity to use their home printer to print, no matter what printer model they have. AirPrint is an interesting function, but I would say a bit useless because not many people will use it.

Here are the printers compatible with AirPrint at the moment:

  • HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer – C410
  • HP Photosmart Premium e-All-in-One Printer series – C310
  • HP Photosmart All-in-One Printer series – B210
