Google Cr-48 Chrome OS Notebook – a MacBook Air competitor?

Google Cr-48 Notebook it is the first device that will run the new Chrome OS operating system developed by Google during these years. This first device will be available for purchase starting from February of next year under a different name, but in the meantime any interested person in the US can sign up for the testing program of these new toys. Enter on this page, fill out the form and if you are selected you will be able to test the first Notebook made by Google together with the first operating system for such devices made by the same company.

Here are the specifications of the new Google Cr-48:

  • 12.1 inch screen;
  • normal physical keyboard;
  • oversized clickpad;
  • 3G/Wi-Fi/HDD flash, similar to the one in the MacBook Air;
  • webcam;
  • 8 hours of use plus 7 more standby;
  • instead of the Capslock button there is one for search.

Those from Google say that this notebook will be able to boot in about 10 seconds and when I hear that statement I think of the MacBook Air which has exactly the same function. Either Apple knew that Google would implement such a function in its future notebook or Google worked on its implementation, anyway it is very clear that Apple will have a competitor in Google and on the market of portable devices. Will Google manage to capture a large enough market share to pose a threat to all mobile device manufacturers? Very very hard to believe because everything revolves around Windows at the moment and an operating system like Google Chrome OS needs a few years to mature.
