The Samsung 9 series is the newest laptop offered by the Samsung company and although it has not yet been presented at CES, Engadget managed to obtain some information about this new wonder. Samsung claims that this is the thinnest laptop in the world, but unfortunately for them the situation is slightly different because, according to the specifications, this laptop is as thin as the MacBook Air and weighs only 0.01 pounds less than Apple's product . On the hardware side, Samsung offers much more, a latest generation processor, a backlit keyboard, 1.5W speakers and a 1.5W sub-woofer.

Samsung claims that the new laptop is able to reach 6.5 hours of use, which I think is quite ok considering the included hardware. The Samsung 9 series is a very interesting laptop that is likely to be a competitor on the scale of the MacBook Air, especially since both have a starting price of $1.600.

Here are the hardware specifications of the Samsung 9 series:

  • Intel i5-2537M processor of 1.4 Ghz capable of reaching speeds of up to 2.3 Ghz with the help of the turbo boost function;
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM;
  • 128GB SSD;
  • 13.3 inch LED-backlit display with SuperBright Plus technology and 1366 x 768 pixel resolution;
  • 2 1.5W stereo speakers and a 1.5W sub-woofer;
  • Autonomy up to 6.5 hours;
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, WiMaxi and Bluetooth 3.0;
  • HDMI, USB.

What do you think, will it "bite" the MacBook Air's market share?
