Hitachi is developing a new IPS LCD screen model that is better than Retina Display

Do you think the Retina Display screens in the iPhone 4 are great? Well, here is Hitachi bring on the market something that on paper looks much better than what Apple has implemented in the iPhone terminals. We are talking about a new type of IPS LCD screen that the Japanese company has developed. It is about a 4.5 inch screen that has the following characteristics;

  • 4.5-inch IPS LCD (16:9)
  • resolution of 1,280 x720
  • 329 pixels per inch
  • LED backlight
  • 500cd / m2 brightness
  • 1,100: 1 contrast ratio

On paper, this screen is much better than the one offered by Apple, which has 326 pixels per inch, a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels, and an 800:1 contrast ratio. Of course, the Hitachi screen is 4.5 inches compared to the iPhone's which is only 3.5 inches, but the technical specifications are great. The company announced that it will start producing these screens only in October of this year, so the first smartphones with this LCD model will probably be available only next year.
