Versions, FileVault, AirDrop, these are the new functions of Mac OS X Lion

Apple released the first one today developer preview for the Mac OS X Lion operating system that will probably be available in the summer of this year. Together with this developer preview, Apple also launched a special page where we can document ourselves about the new functions that would be available in Mac OS X Lion. Among them we learn that Apple will introduce a new application for Mail, some new multitouch gestures, the Mission Control expose, new ways to transfer files between Macs, the possibility to run applications in fullscreen on Mac OS X, the introduction of Launchpad plus many other news.

Here are some of the novelties that Apple has prepared for us:

  • Mission Control : it is an expose look for applications open in the background, so you will be able to have an overview of everything you have open on your Mac and using the Magic Mouse you will be able to easily switch from one application to another with a "gesture" or one click.
  • Launchpad : basically, Apple will create an environment similar to the springboard in iOS where all available applications will be listed and from where all these will be able to be opened much more simply and easily.
  • New multitouch gestures : using the Magic Mouse or the new trackpad we will be able to pinch to zoom to zoom in pages, we will be able to swipe left/right to move from one page to another, basically we will be able to use some of the gestures available in iOS.
  • The possibility to run applications in fullscreen : this function is quite simple to understand, the interesting thing is that we will be able to swype left/right to switch from one application to another, a mode implemented in iOS 4.3 for the iPad.
  • A new version of the Mail application : the application will be similar to the one on the iPad and will have a category called Conversations where all our emails will be grouped.
  • AirDrop : will allow the easy transfer of files from one Mac to another.
  • versions : will save your documents as you write them giving you the possibility to see all the saved versions and go back to an old one if necessary.
  • DESCRIPTION : it will reopen an application exactly as you left it when you closed Macs, basically a version of the multitasking available in iOS.
  • autosave : will save your documents as you write them.
  • FileVault : it will allow the encryption of data from our internal or external hard drives and the complete deletion of data in case of need.
  • Mac OS X Lion Server : It will be included in the new Mac OS X Lion.

That's about it, we will have an important update once Mac OS X Lion will be available released.
