Video: Untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 available this week, iPad 2 jailbroken!

I told you last week that i0n1c, who demonstrated in a video that he has an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.3, would like to postpone the publication of the new untethered jailbreak solution until after the release of iOS 4.3.1. He claimed that Apple would release this new version of iOS in the near future to close the Safari patch presented at the Pwn2Own contest. Last night he returned to what he said, confirming that he will not wait for iOS 4.3.1 and that by this weekend he should have solved the problems of the alpha version of his jailbreak solution. If he solves the problems and no other untethered jailbreak solution is released in the meantime, he will release his own. He encouraged the Dev Team to release a tethered jailbreak solution but if the Dev Team won't do this you can use it that of iH8sn0w. i0n1c's untethered jailbreak solution will be implemented in redsn0w and will be available after all functionality issues are resolved.

Any report that I wait for iOS 4.3.1 is just a misinterpretation of my words.
I merely think that Apple should release an iOS 4.3.1 soon, because it is in their interest not to wait for several months when everyone knows that there is a remote exploit in MobileSafari that might have leaked during the #PWN2OWN contest.

I am pretty sure that the untether will be released before the next weekend. I was using older kernel patches that caused lagging on the jailbroken device. I will change that and then port it to the other devices and release.

In the picture above we have an iPad 2 3G tablet belonging to comex who managed to jailbreak it and install Cydia. comex used an exploit from iOS 4.3 that it had available, so it is more than likely a userland exploit that for iPhone owners implies the need to activate the terminal with a card in order to be able to use it. Now we have 2 hackers with 2 jailbreak solutions, but it remains to be seen who will release his solution first.

comex also made a video clip in which he demonstrates how Cydia works on iPad 2 and noticed how important the dual-core processor is!
