$0.99 prices are killing the video game industry

The AppStore has set certain standards regarding the prices for applications, many developers accusing the way others price their work and the fact that users expect good games sold at ridiculous prices. Epic Games reiterates this idea saying that $0.99 prices will kill the video game industry. Epic Games recently launched the game Infinity Blade in the AppStore, the best game in terms of graphics, but unfortunately in terms of gameplay, the game is not worth the €4.99 that Epic Games was asking for it.

"If there's anything that's killing us [in the traditional games business] it's dollar apps," he lamented. "How do you sell someone a $60 game that's really worth it... They're used to 99 cents. As I said, it's an uncertain time in the industry. But it's an exciting time for whoever picks the right path and wins."

The president of Epic Games claims that in the video game industry there is uncertainty about the path that developers should follow, considering the fact that games for consoles and PCs are becoming more and more unpopular. He says that people who buy $0.99 games will never buy $60 games because they don't see the point of spending that much money, and he's right. Why pay $60 for a game, when in reality it's not worth that much. Games for smartphones and tablets are becoming more and more popular because they have very low prices and sell well. Basically, it's about selling a lot at low prices vs selling a few at high prices and the $0.99 games will win the battle.
