Apple is the second largest buyer of microelectromechanical components

Thanks to iDevices, manufacturers of microelectromechanical components have recorded a substantial increase in sales. We are talking here about the accelerometer, gyroscope and microphones included in the iDevices launched by Apple in the last year. iPhone 4 has an accelerometer, a gyroscope, 2 microphones and iPod Touch 4G and iPad 2 have almost the same components. The producers of these components have registered substantial orders from the Apple company, which has now reached the 2nd place in the list of buyers of microelectromechanical components.

Much of the appeal of these products lies in their sophisticated user interfaces, which rely heavily on MEMS sensors, specifically accelerometers, gyroscopes and microphones. This caused Apple's purchasing to boom in 2010. Apple purchased US$195 million worth of consumer/mobile MEMS sensors in 2010, up 116.7% from US$90 million in 2009, IHS said. The vendor overtook Nintendo, and trailed leading purchaser Samsung Electronics by just US$5 million.

The top was made by those from iSuppli and it refers to the contracts concluded last year, so we also include the purchases made for the iPad 2, although the tablet was launched this year. On the 1st place is the Samsung company, which this year could be overtaken by Apple, especially since we are talking about the inclusion of the gyroscope in the new iPad 2 tablet. However, iDevices are not the only Apple products that have included these components because MacBooks and iPods - also have accelerometers included, so we are talking about widespread use. I assume that next year the sales of microelectromechanical components will increase since the iPhone 3GS terminal will be discontinued and the remaining iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 will use gyroscope modules.
