Apple is trying to register the name Thunderbolt as a brand, Sony is implementing it in laptops

Thunderbolt is the new technology implemented by Apple in the MacBook Pro (initially) and in the iMac, which allows us to transfer files at speeds of up to 10Gbps in dual-channel. The technology currently exists only for those 2 Apple products, so only between them can file transfer be done at such speeds. The technology was initially developed by Intel under the name Light Peak, but Apple collaborated in the development of a new data transfer system. Apple helped Intel to produce Thunderbolt and now they are trying to register as a brand the name Thunderbolt by filing applications in the USA and Canada.

It's quite strange to see that Apple is trying to register the name as a trademark and not Intel, the company that designed it. However, what is the reason for this rush? It looks like Sony Use Thunderbolt technology in its laptops but in a different form. Apple implemented everything through Display Port on Macs, but Sony will use a USB port to transfer data at high speeds. In conclusion, Apple is trying to protect its name before it ends up being widely used by all manufacturers. It is interesting that the patent also talks about mobile devices, so maybe Apple is thinking about an implementation in tablets or phones.
