The new MacBook Air series could be launched together with Mac OS X Lion

OS X Lion represents a very important update for the OS X operating system and Apple has decided not to launch a new series of MacBook Air until the new operating system is ready for official launch. I already told you that Apple is preparing a new series of MacBook Air that will have Thunderbolt technology and the Sandy Bridge platform implemented, and the launch of this new series was estimated for June/July 2011. Now new information received by AppleInsider reveals the fact that Apple would like to deliver the new MacBook Air series together with the new OS X Lion, so until the final version of the new operating system is ready, the new MacBook Air series will not be released either.

For instance, new Thunderbolt-enabled Sandy Bridge MacBook Air models expected to go into production this month have been ready and waiting for some time, according to people familiar with the matter. But management is currently unwilling to usher the new models into the market with the current Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system.

Instead, the Mac maker is said to be locked on waiting until it can image the new notebooks with a Gold Master build of Lion so that buyers are afforded the latest and greatest Apple experience.

It is normal for Apple to want to launch a new product together with a new version of the operating system, so the new MacBook Air series will most likely be available only in July when the official launch of OS X Lion is announced. All those who will buy a MacBook Air will then automatically receive OS X Lion, so they will be exempt from the procedure of requesting a free version of the new operating system.
