Apple could launch new 3 TB AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule models

Even before WWDC 2011 started, there were rumors claiming that Apple will launch new AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule models, and this week we might see them in stores. According to some sources from within the company we will have 2 new models of Time Capsule that will have a storage capacity of 2 and 3 TB, respectively, plus a new model of AirPort Extreme (5th generation). The 2 new Time Capsule models could have implemented a caching software system that would allow downloading updates for iOS and Mac OS X from Apple's servers and delivering them to iDevices and Macs when needed.

  • MD031LL/A – AIRPORT EXTREME 802.11N (5TH GEN)- USA
  • MD032LL/A – TIME CAPSULE 2TB (4TH GENERATION) – USA
  • MD033LL/A – TIME CAPSULE 3TB (4TH GENERATION) – USA

There is a possibility that the new Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme models will be available at slightly lower prices than the current generation, but for now there is no 100% sure confirmation of this rumor. For several weeks, the 2 products were either absent from the stocks of Apple stores or were available in limited quantities, so Apple could launch them this very week.
