Last evening, Intel updated its list of processors available for purchase. 3 new models were included in the list, all ULV (ultra-low voltage) and all could be available in the new MacBook Air series that Apple would officially launch next month. The 3 processor models are faster than the current Sandy Bridge versions available on the market, although they have a TDP of only 17 watts. The new processors are faster than those used by Samsung in the Series 9 laptops, so Apple will have a major advantage in terms of direct competition with Samsung.
- Core i7-2677M: 2 cores, 1.8 GHz (turbos to 2.9GHz), 4MB cache, 17 watts, $317
- Core i7-2637M: 2 cores, 1.7GHz (turbos to 2.8GHz), 4MB cache, 17 watts, $289
- Core i5-2557M: 2 cores, 1.7GHz (turbos to 2.7GHz), 3MB cache, 17 watts, $250
The turbo boost of the new processors will dramatically improve the speed of MacBook Airs, which are estimated to be at least 10-20% faster than the current generation launched in November of last year. It is also rumored that the starting price for the new MacBook Airs would be set at $899, but we will find out more only when the official launch takes place.
