Jan Michael-Cart, the man who brought us so many concepts for iOS 5, made a video clip in which he demonstrates how an application would work iMessage for Mac OS X. Everything starts with a dedicated application in which the messages received from mobile terminals or other Macs are displayed, but the messages received on the Mac can also be read on any other iDevice that is logged in with the same user on which the messages are sent . The application for Mac OS X is quite similar to the iChat application available for so many years, and maybe Apple will integrate the iMessage system into iChat somewhere in the future.
I think that extending iMessage to Macs would represent a major advantage for Apple over its competitors, but I don't think we will see such a move from the company anytime soon.
