HTC is suing Apple for infringing patents on Macs and iDevices

Today HTC filed a lawsuit in an American court against Apple, accusing it of infringing 3 patents in the line of Macs and iDevices. Those from Reuters  mentions the fact that HTC wants to receive compensation for the infringement of these patents and damages with a value 3 times higher than the compensation accusing those from Apple of knowingly infringing the patents.

Smartphone maker HTC Corp sued Apple Inc on Tuesday, claiming infringement of three patents through Apple's sale of Macintosh computers, iPhones, iPads and other devices.

The lawsuit filed in the US District Court in Delaware seeks to halt Apple's importation and sale of infringing products in the United States. It also seeks compensatory damages, triple damages for willful infringement, and other remedies.

HTC was sued by Apple for patent infringement and the Cupertino company requested a ban on the sale of HTC products in the US. Now those from HTC will make exactly the same requests in the American court against those from Apple, but it remains to be seen whether they will win the case or not. Below are the 3 patents that HTC claims Apple infringed when it produced and distributed Macs and iDevices:

  • 7,765,414: Circuit and operating method for integrated interface of PDA and wireless communication system
  • 7,672,219: Multipoint-to-point communication using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
  • 7,417,944: Method for orderwire modulation

  1. For now, HTC is on the ropes after the American ITC judge ruled in favor of Apple, and if this decision is upheld by the ITC plenary, HTC will no longer be able to sell in the US. Therefore, it is necessary for HTC to quickly reach a settlement with Apple by then, and this lawsuit is intended to make Apple rush to reach a settlement with HTC. This is the context. I think we will find out the outcome in a few months.

  2. I'm looking forward to the boomerang launched by apple (steve jobs and his gang are like in the Romanian proverb, a thief calls thieves) to hit even them. It's only a matter of time.

  3. It seems that …. Nothing! Until now, only apple has won the cause and the gargle of those from samsung and htc is quite normal... Even if they don't win anything, I can't sit idly by. It seems funny to me that there are still enough people who still believe that Apple launches into lawsuits with suppliers or copiers without having their backs insured.
