Romanian mobile phone operators and mobile internet offers

I recently changed my mobile phone subscription and looked to change the mobile internet option I had until now with another one that would offer me more traffic at a decent price. After searches and problems with the people who make the offers at Orange, I managed to find the option Hummingbirds 9 which offers 3 GB of traffic for only 9 euros, a more than good offer considering the prices of the other options. Of course, Orange runs until Wednesday a promotion for the Colibri options and offers double traffic at the same price, practically imitating the promotion carried out by Vodafone. Looking through Orange's offer, I noticed that you can get more than consistent traffic for more than decent prices, but Vodafone is not too bad in this regard either.

The good part about these operators lies in the fact that they offer a lot of traffic at speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps, which I cannot say about Cosmote, which although has similar offers offers speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps on a network that is under construction. Practically, mobile phone operators in Romania have somewhat aligned their offers and mobile internet options are similar, during the holy month. Of course, you will not have low prices for low traffic, but if you want a few GB of traffic, you can choose a more than decent option from any operator's offer. In terms of offers, the best is RCS&RDS, which offers free mobile internet for subscribers, but unfortunately their network works very well only in certain large cities in Romania.

I, for one, am satisfied with 3 GB of traffic for €9, although I know that in terms of the cost/MB ratio, it can be better. What mobile internet options do you have? If you also provide details about the operator, maybe some people will think to change something through the subscription.

UPDATED: It seems that Colibri subscriptions offer double speed only in the case of a modem subscription. I apologize for the wrong confusion, it seems that when you receive information from Orange you have to check it with 3 other sources from within the company.

  1. I have it for 3,72eur via Cosmote, 250MB of traffic included for speeds up to 7,2Mbps, after the end of the traffic the additional traffic is not charged with a single cent but the speed decreases... On an iPhone 4 it is the best "low cost" option for free and unlimited traffic...

The option being good, the operator abolished it only a few months after its launch! Spor 🙂

  2. Hello, I have a subscription from orange pantera 29 which offers 400 min. born , 1200 in the network, 1200 msg in the network, 400 msg nat. , 50 mms nat and unlimited mobile internet. In my opinion, it is not much, considering that I opted for unlimited internet and I talk quite a lot on the phone. Unlike other networks, orange also offers unlimited net, which I noticed at vodafone has a maximum net offer of 2,5 GB (this was the case 2 months ago).

  3. Howdy. I have the Pantera 8 subscription from orange which contains 250MB of included traffic to which I added a special option (it is no longer available on the market, it was part of the Orange Young program) of 2,5 euros and gives me 500MB of traffic which and report. At the moment, these 750 MB are enough for me, I don't use them all, so about 300 are reported to me every month and I have 1GB of traffic available.
Zaone, you're talking about speeds of 21,6Mbps on Orange, Vodafone or Cosmote for nothing because iDevices don't support this speed, so it doesn't help us at all 🙂 Or does iPad2 support it and I don't know?

  4. Yes, I called Orange and they had no idea if I could switch from My Smartphone for 9 euros to Colibri 9 euros. I am still in the contract period. They directed me to an Orange shop...
    Zao, can you enlighten me?

  5. :))) Initially, the Colibri 7 option was activated for me, but it was an offer and I didn't know what was activating it. When I found out what it was offering, I did everything possible to switch to Colibri 9, which happened without any problems.

  6. Yes, from small to large it goes clear at any time. But My Smartphone is 9,37 euros and Colibri 9 is 9 euros. I don't know if it will work...

  7. It seems that a new big battle between operators has started...
They came to me to renew the contract for 12 months, as I have no intention of leaving Vodafone (I don't have a contract for more than 1 year), and I received 8 GB/month - 12 euros and 1 GB free in rooming. I admit that they surprised me extremely pleasantly 🙂

  8. Hello. I have a mobile phone subscription from RDS and activated the mobile internet extra option (10 ron / 5 GB / month) on a Nokia C6-01 phone, and with the Joikuspot application I turn it into a mobile hotspot for Ipad 2. For Bucharest, where I sit 99% of the time it moves decently.

  9. @zaone are you sure it works on the phone and not just on the hummingbird 9 laptop?
When I wanted to do my ab colibri, they told me that only 15 (6GB) goes to Telegon.

  10. I got that short offer from orange with unlimited internet when they launched the white iPhone. I use about 20GB of traffic per month (hot spot...speed 250-480KB download...upload max40)...I would do more but it keeps disconnecting with continuous traffic (torrent download)...it must be from the phone...has anyone else experienced something like this ?
a strange thing: for those in the orange network, when the speed is low, let's say below 0.35mb (not bytes), turn on, then off to airplane mode and the speed returns (that's how it is for me in some cities... a lot of notifications to orange related to this topic 🙂 )

  11. - at cosmote there is an offer for 7 euros you get 3gb... but I use the extra option with everything with minutes and internet at the price of 10 euros 1000min network (cosmote), 1000 sms in the network, 75min national, 75 national sms and 1gb traffic, the signal is very good compare with the one on vodafone, from orange I can't get a signal because it says no service at home 😀 and outside more edge.

  12. Orange Colibri €10/month with VAT 6Gb/month then drops to 128kbs unlimited. Curious that by tetheting the speed does not decrease after consuming 6Gb, but on the iPhone it moves execrably after consuming these 6Gb

  13. I have Colibri Mix 14-Orange, with unlimited traffic at 128 Kbps, after the first 2 GB of traffic at 21.6 Mbps, and I use it in parallel on my phone and laptop. It goes OK in the city, and outside it is acceptable.

  14. The former internet start control the current hummingbird 15, but with
10 Euro VAT included = 6GB traffic included, put on the same card with the voice subscription in 2008, as a prize for loyalty. He tries to trick me into giving up on him, but I don't let myself, I'm not a nurse, not to realize that you can't find something like this anymore.

  15. I have pantera 29 for iphone and I have a gigabyte of internet at 7,2 as if after I finish that giga my speed decreases but it seems to me to be the same thing

  16. Hello, I have a Flamingo 12 subscription and 1GB internet traffic FOR 2 EUROS. I GOT THE OFFER FOR LIFE AND I AM SUPER SATISFIED WITH THE SPEED OF THE IPHONE 4

  17. I don't know why you complain about digi mobile... for example, I was in Brasov, it works perfectly... in the same way in the logs + I went up with the cable car to Babele and I had a full signal, it worked decently.... this summer at the sea through north south ephoria and costs on the beach it went perfectly... on a neverlocked of course 😉

  18. I use cosmote web n walk from cosmote for 2.99 euros per month unlimited internet and I can say that it works quite decently, those speeds you list above 21 m/s let's be serious, maybe you only have that speed in speedtest otherwise for everyday browsing....At 3 euros unlimited internet at 340k/s I say it's ok, I notice that orange gives you 1 giga after which you have unlimited at 128k/s and the settings are very easy.

  19. When I got my iPhone 4 last year in September, I got 1GB of free data per month. But after 6 months I noticed that I have 2GB, I went to an Orange representative, where they told me that every 6 months, if I don't cancel the contract, I will receive double traffic. It turns out that in September I will already get 4GB! However, I can't believe it, because the contract mentions free internet for only 2 years...

By the way, at Orange Moldova I also have a data subscription for my laptop, with speeds up to 42Mbps! For 200 MDL (about 12 euros) per month, I have 40GB net, of which 16GB is for loyalty (3 years). I couldn't believe it in March, when they announced the offer, but I was pleasantly surprised by the real speed: maximum 31Mbps download and 3,8Mbps upload in my region, a suburb of Chisinau!

  20. I also have the same offer on orange as Bobby_bagaretzu, but the price/MB ratio seems to me simply flat! You are better off if you choose the lowest offer in this range (at 1.5 euros, it seems to me) and after that you activate the "refill" option which costs 0.5 euros/100mb of traffic and you have a better price/MB ratio when you reach an additional cost of 4 euros. I will do this soon.

  21. zao, I went to the orange shop in my city and they told me that I can switch from my smartphone to Colibri, but only with a subscription of €15 or more. The ones of 11, 9 and 7€ are only for stick/laptop. How much can they lie? Who the hell should I talk to at Orange to get me a 9€ hummingbird? Do you know someone?

  22. Wow, I also called the orange data service and they told me that the hummingbird subscription is not compatible with a voice subscription of any color. I need another card. Consequently, I don't know how you activated hummingbird on your phone. Maybe on another card, that's something else.

  23. Yesterday I talked with a few people from them and in my case it was a special offer. Initially, they activated Colibri 7, then 9, and there was a glitch after which I had 2GB of traffic. In the end, I stayed with the Colibri 9 promotional option, but on the subscriptions, you must have at least Colibri 15 installed.

  24. WTF? Where did you get that from? I have only one voice card on which I activated this option. Any option can be activated anywhere, you just need to know who to talk to.

  25. Well, I repeat myself, I spoke to customer relations, the orange shop and the orange data service (also on the phone) where I was clearly told that the hummingbird subscription is a special data one and a separate card is needed. It is an independent voice service that is not compatible with it in any way.

  26. And one more thing, it's not nice to tell everyone that you have this subscription when it's clear that it's a special offer, so to speak, from orange especially for you. Such a thing is not possible for any client... We also create illusions for nothing and call left and right...

  27. @catanzaro27: Yes, that's what the employees know because that's what they're told. If you end up talking to someone from retention and they make you a loyalty offer, things change. I asked for a loyalty offer for one year, I talked to someone from retentions and he activated Colibri 7. Initially I didn't even know what was activating me, only after the option was activated did I find out what it was about. Basically, you have to get "over" the employees from 411 and Orange Shop, you have to get to the retainers where the "power" of negotiation and bidding is.
I told you that initially I didn't know, I thought that the offer was valid for everyone because that's what I was told. Only after the publication of the article did I find out how things were and I posted an update. If I had known from the beginning, I would not have written. I wanted to help those who were looking for a new subscription option, but it seems that I was wrongly informed from the very beginning and even from 2 sources.

  28. Okay and how do you get there? And if you end up, they can play the same card... Probably your subscription had expired and you asked for something extra, there are all kinds of situations that are not common to everyone. It was nice, do you realize that you can switch from mysmartphone 9€ for 500mb/month to colibri 9€ for 1,5gb/month... I don't have enough 500+200mb from the subscription per month...

  29. I had a subscription that had expired for a year and I asked for a loyalty offer, otherwise I'll be fine. The people from retention called me and I talked with them. I already knew which subscription I wanted to switch to, only the internet option was the problem and in the end they found me 1 GB for 7 euros with "unlimited" traffic (meaning the speed drop to 128kbps). On Friday my option was activated (not knowing what it was about initially) and I found out that I have hummingbird 7. Looking on the website I saw that there is also hummingbird 9 which gave me triple traffic for only 2 euros. I switched to the new option and that's it. I thought that since they activated it for me it would work for anyone, I didn't know that it was a special case for me because I went through retentions.

  30. You can also try the retentions, you say you want to port, now it depends on how many months of the subscription you have left. Eventually you say you want to terminate and move because you can't anymore.

  31. Cosmote is really weaker in terms of coverage, but I know that it invests a lot in infrastructure. their offers are better than Voda and Orange. for example, for legal entities, for 26 euros you have 2 subscriptions with 600 national minutes, unlimited in cosmote and romtelecom + internet (modem stick). I know someone from cosmote who can give you more details, but only if you have a company/PFA... if you are interested, write me an email at the address and I will give you more details....
