KBShortcuts is a tweak released last night in Cydia that brings iDevice owners some extremely useful functions that Apple should have implemented since the launch of the operating system. This tweak allows us to use the keyboard of our terminals to perform several functions such as: text translation, canceling the deletion of some words, searching for written words, displaying the number of written characters, replacing some words, the possibility to navigate letter by letter among words, the possibility to rewrite part of the text plus many many more.

KBShortcuts adds a large number of function shortcuts to your iOS keyboard. Functions include but are not limited to: Translate, Define Word, Search and Replace, Overwrite Mode, Word Count, text navigation and selection and many more. To trigger a shortcut swipe from "Space Bar" to the shortcut key. To get started swipe from Space to the "?" key to view the help menu with the entire list of shortcuts. For non-english-alphabet keyboards, or even for convenience Swipe from "Space Bar" to "Exclamation Mark" (!) in order to set the keys. Set translation language and quick-texts from the Settings app. See a video demo further below!

Known issues: (Will fix in a future version)

  • Not entirely stable with Spotlight and the Lockscreen (But is usable).
  • Unpredictable results when using the shortcuts in controls which contain more than just text.
  • The Undo and Redo functions may be faulty sometimes.
  • Translation should work for most languages. If your language doesn't show the correct characters please report.

The video clip above explains in detail how this tweak works and I recommend you watch it. The tweak has a settings menu in the iOS application where we can choose how the words are translated, but we can also select how the keyboard function shortcuts are activated. In the keyboard, the default function activation mode requires a swype from the space button to the letter to which we assigned the function and a swype from the space button to the button that introduces the punctuation mark ? will open a list with all the shortcuts available for each function.

KBShortcuts is an extremely useful tweak that introduces a lot of functions needed by any user of an iDevice and to install it you have to take out $2.5 from your pocket.
