Apple is preparing a new cheap iMac without Thunderbolt for the end of 2011

    A few weeks ago we learned that Apple intends to launch a new model of the iMac until the end of 2011, but now we have one official document which describes the new product and its technical characteristics. We are talking about a 21.5-inch iMac that has inferior hardware components to those available in the current models, so theoretically we should also see a new, lower price for the product not yet available to customers. The information comes from a public document on the Apple website and updated last week, and the technical specifications include:

  • Processor – 3.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i3 with 3MB on-chip shared L3 cache;
  • 2GB (one 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory;
  • 250GB (7200 rpm) hard drive;
  • AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memory;

     The interesting part is that this new product will not have Thunderbolt technology implemented, so we should be able to purchase it at the price of $999, being the cheapest of Apple's iMacs. The company will probably try to attract even more users by introducing this new product in its own offer, or maybe it has it ready for a certain segment of the market. Regardless of the motivation behind the launch of such a product, it is clear that Apple will launch a new iMac by the end of 2011, it remains to be seen when.
