More than a year ago, the first Apple TV 2G reached happy customers, with Apple reporting a record number of orders for its device. A year later in iOS 5 they were found reference which indicates that the A5 chip from iPad 2 and iPhone 4S will be ported to Apple TV 3G, i.e. the 3rd generation. In addition to the new processor, the Apple TV could also have a new design, but maybe Apple will not do this in the end considering that the current product is extremely easy to recognize by anyone just because of the design that made it famous.
The implementation of an A5 chip in Apple TV will be done to give users the opportunity to watch videos in 1080p format on their own televisions, something impossible to do with the products available today. The new dual-core processor from Apple can easily run this kind of video clips, especially since the iPhone 4S actually films in this format with its new 8 megapixel camera. When will Apple TV 3G be released? No one knows, but it is very possible that in the near future we will see it introduced in the App Store without Apple making too much of a "case" of its release.
