This evening the Apple company released version 10.5 of iTunes, the version with which we can install the new iOS 5 that will be released tomorrow. If you have iTunes 10.4 or a beta version of iTunes then you should install iTunes 10.5 which is available on the Apple website. This new version of iTunes does not affect the jailbreak of our devices considering that jailbreak solutions are implemented separately from iTunes. You can download iTunes 10.5 for Windows/Mac OS X following this link.

The new version of iTunes brings integration with Apple's iCloud service, that is, we will be able to choose for iTunes to save the backup of our iDevices directly to Apple's service and not to our computer. In addition to backup in iCloud, iTunes 10.5 finally brings the possibility to synchronize an iDevice with any Windows or Mac OS X computer via Wi-Fi. I will detail more about this option in a future article. Here's what's new in iTunes 10.5:

  • iTunes in the Cloud. iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, anytime, at no additional cost.
  • Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.
  • Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.
  • Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.
  • Wi-Fi Syncing. Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they're both on the same Wi-Fi network.
