Black Friday - record sales for Apple on probably the busiest day of the year

Morning I told you that last Friday was probably the most profitable in the history of the Apple company, its stores recording sales more than 4 times higher than on a normal day. Now we have information from American analysts who claim that Apple sold around 10 Macs and 15 iPad tablets every hour its stores were open. Moreover, it seems that iPhone 4S terminals were sold so quickly that 75% of Apple stores were completely out of stock before the end of the day, but more than half managed to bring terminals in stock for the next day.

  • In eight hours, he (or his team) watched iPads and Macs walk out the door at the rate of 14.8 and 10.1 per hour, respectively.
  • The 68% increase in iPad sales from 2010 he observed is lower than the 84% annual growth he's predicting for the quarter. He expects iPad sales overseas to make up the difference.
  • The 23% increase in Mac sales he observed is in line both with the 25% he's predicting for the quarter and with the 19% increase NPD reported for the first month of the quarter.

Apple had very good sales on the occasion of Black Friday and they included the entire range of products available in stores. Of course, all the figures above refer to US stores and are designed for the entire Apple distribution network. Regarding the online store, it is rumored that Apple would have sold 89 iPad 2 tablets per minute globally, a really high number, but for now only available as a rumor. Summing up all the information, Apple made a lot of money last Friday and that will matter when the financial results for Q4 2011 (Q1 2012 for Apple) are presented in January.
