iOS 5.0.1 build 9A406 fixes signal issues for iPhone 4S!

Two days ago Apple released iOS 5.0.1 build 9A406 for iPhone 4S, a special build that was meant to solve some extremely annoying problems for the owners of this terminal. Many users have complained about the fact that iPhone 4S terminals do not recognize SIM cards and Apple seems to have taken care that this new build solves this problem, but not only that. In the changelog for iOS 5.0.1 build 9A406 Apple specifies that iPhone 4S terminals should no longer lose signal in areas where the signal is strong, so you should no longer see the No Service or Searching message.

Here is the changelog for iOS 5.0.1 build 9A406:

  • "Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed" alert appears intermittently.
  • Status bar displays "No Service" or "Searching" in a location with good network coverage.

To make sure that people solve the problems, those from Apple have also published the steps that an iPhone 4S owner must follow to restore to the new version of iOS 5.0.1:

  1. Back up your iPhone with iTunes or iCloud. Although Apple does not recommend this, I do and recommend you download iOS 5.0.1 build 9A406 available here to make sure iTunes uses it.
  2. Open iTunes, if you haven't done it yet, connect the iPhone to the computer and holding down the shift key (option on Mac), press the Restore button and choose the ipsw downloaded in step 1.
  3. After the restore, reinstall the backup, although it would be advisable not to do it in order to have a clean system without problems "imported" through the backup.

That's all. After completing these steps you should have the new iOS 5.0.1 installed and theoretically you should not have any more problems with the signal or the card. Of course, many followed the steps described by Apple and some have confirmed that the solution works, but some say that they still have problems, so I'm waiting for you to tell me how the situation is evolving.
