It was 19:00 on the eve and an iPhone 4S was sleeping. It wasn't his fault but the network that wasn't working. This is how the sad story of an iPhone designed by Apple for another world begins. Last night Orange Romania had problems with the telephone network and the 3G connectivity was the one that prevented me from using my phone for several hours. The iPhone 4S is designed to work mainly on 3G networks only and does not have a button that allows you to switch from 3G to EDGE (no, the Cellular Data button does not do this). The phone knows how to switch from 3G to EDGE when necessary, but it cannot be forced to do so, and last night I had the first real problem with this limitation imposed by Apple.
Orange's 3G network was active, but absolutely nothing worked on it, not even the telephony part. The iPhone 4S did not want to switch the connectivity from 3G to EDGE and this turned it into an iPod Touch for more than 5 hours. To be honest, last night I saw for the first time how bad some of Apple's ideas are and if I didn't have another phone in the house I wouldn't have been able to call/send messages etc., until around midnight when everything went back to normal . Apple... iPhone 4S is a good phone, but limitations like this spoil the good mood even on special days. I expect to go through identical moments when Orange still has problems, but a jailbreak would solve everything.
